Anne Hartman speaking to the group

On September 12, 2013, Anne Hartman opened her home — and yard — to the Dogwood Garden Club. After our meeting we got a chance to view some of the hard work Anne and her husband have put into their yard.

The couple has created a grassless yard that includes roses, vegetables, fruit trees, garden art, and much, much more. While we were there they were in the process of putting in a blackberry bed, which involves digging down three feet deep and filling the bed with good soil.

You may notice a lot of rocks around Anne’s beds. That’s because her soil is rocky (normal around this area) and she’s used the rocks she’s dug up to create raised beds.
