At our November meeting on the 15th, we learned about creating bonsai trees from Kathy Mettler.

Kathy and her mother read an article in Sunset during the late 1970s and were instantly hooked. Kathy says, “We started with native finds like seedlings from their Christmas tree farm and wild maple, and gave each other pieces of equipment for birthdays and Christmases.”

In addition to extensive readings on the topic, Kathy as taken classes from local bonsai experts, including those at Bonsai Northwest. Today she cares for at least 40 bonsai, although she admits she’s not sure exactly how many she has.
